As life slowly returns to “normal” after COVID-19 hit and restrictions continue to lift throughout the country, many Americans are wondering how to spend their summer vacations. Many of us aren’t ready to board a plane and deal with airport lines and congestion - no surprise! It seems that the summer of 2020 may be the summer for road trips, camping and the great outdoors!
So what are some of the best spots to visit this year? We’ve picked five favorites in our home state of Michigan that offer amazing views.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
As one of the best places to camp in the Midwest, you can enjoy several fun activities. Go dune climbing, take a scenic drive, or have fun canoeing! The diversity of the landscape is impressive, and The National Park Service has done an excellent job of providing access to the various viewpoints while preserving the land. Please note that reservations are required.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park
The masterpiece of this state park’s 50,000 acres is the Tahquamenon River with its waterfalls. It truly is a CANNOT miss! The upper and lower falls both have paved paths for access to overlooks and benches, and there are areas where you can rent a boat to explore the lower falls further. While not required, reservations are highly recommended.

Mackinac Island State Park
Mackinac Island is touted as Michigan’s first state park and the second state park in the country! The landscape is characterized by high limestone bluffs, historic landmarks, and beautiful vistas. Best of all? There are no cars allowed so you can walk, bike, or horseback ride to get around.

However, we can tell you that Mackinac Island IS pet friendly. There are actually 7 pet friendly campgrounds and RV resorts within 20 miles of Mackinac Island, MI.

This beautiful park is located on the shoreline of Lake Superior and encompasses cliffs, lakes, and more! There are over 100 miles to hike with your pets - but please be sure that you respect the public lands and pick up after your pooches. Reservations required.

Baraga State Park
Baraga State Park overlooks Keweenaw Bay on the Lake Superior shoreline. The park features plenty of fishing opportunities, a large campground, and family-friendly events throughout the summer. You’ll also find Michigan’s highest point, Mount Arvon nearby.
